Cracks on the Surface of Solid Wood Flooring

Cracks on the surface of flooring mainly manifests in the form that the elasticity of floor paint is unmatched compared with the extension of solid wood flooring and starts to peel off.

Main Reasons for Cracking Problems on the Flooring:
(1) Sharp changes (up and down) of moisture content in solid floor planking is caused by Extreme temperature changes, and floor paint is unmatched compared with the extension of flooring and thus leads to cracking problems.

(2) The flooring is dehydrated and seriously shrinks after exposure to intense sunlight.

(3) The surface of flooring expands due to dampness or after being dipped in water.

While the floor is being laid, the dryness of the ground, the wall and its base shall be guaranteed. The ground shall be even. The joist and its liner plate shall be dried, the moisture content shall not exceed local equilibrium moisture content. A layer of plastic film shall be laid on the ground before the flooring is laid. The moisture content of wood flooring shall be within standard range and shall not exceed local equilibrium moisture content. When the wood flooring is being laid, enough expansion joints shall be preset based on the room area between flooring and wall base, doorway and etc. During the laying process, try not to use water-based adhesive to prevent the flooring from absorbing moisture and the possible expansion and extortion afterwards.

How to repaired/replace Crack Flooring?

Factory-finished boards can be fixed with a manufacturer repair kit, which typically consists of wood filler, colored marker, and a bottle of finish. If I can’t get a kit, I proceed the same way as I would with regular flooring. I replace the board, or I fill the crack with wood filler and apply a coat of finish over the entire floor so that colors, tones, and sheen match perfectly.

Outdoor Bamboo Decking Cupping

Exposed to moisture for an extended period of time, bamboo flooring products can absorb moisture and weaken. Because bamboo is grass, the grain runs the length of the board. Inferior or inappropriate bamboo selection, the use of bamboo that is either harvested too young or not properly dried can be prone to changes in temperature and humidity. This can lead to cupping, warping and swelling of the material. Reason  1. Uneven distribution of floor moisture content 2. The floor is slotted on one side and not slotted on the other. The two sides of the floor are not the same as the air contact area, and the degree of water absorption is different, resulting in different moisture content on both sides of the floor. In the case of high air humidity, there is less water in the air without the slotting side, and the side of the back slot absorbs more water in the air, expanding the face surface of the back slot, but the surface of the plane does not expand, so the floor will bend like that of the plane. In the case of air drying, on the contrary, the board will bend like a slotted side. ▶▶ Solutions 1. In production: When health balance, drying should not be too fast, drying kiln to keep the temperature uniform; Try to make sure that both sides of the floor have the same texture 2. How to avoid before installation Proper expansion joints reserved for paving 3. After installation Because the weather humidity changes with the season, you can see if the floor will recover in a few months. If it is still tile, you can only replace the floor
