Dry air and geothermal system in winter would bring about loss of moisture of the solid wood floor, that fine cracks may happened.
To avoid this and extend the service life of your beautiful wood flooring, more methods of maintenance are needed in winter.
1. Wax floor
Hardwood floor is popular for the natural grain, durability and cosy feet feeling for decades. However, fine cracks may occurred after a summer and winter under geothermal condition. To solve this, you just need to apply solid wax on hardwood floor for sealing the inner moisture and avoiding floor shrink.
2. Keep 50% humidity in room
In dry winter, to shorten window opening time and increase room humidity is great help for flooring maintenance.
In fact, the actual reason of seam occurred is not about temperature but humidity. Besides, the indoor humidity is higher than outdoor in winter, thus, the outdoor cold air will take indoor moisture away and dry the plank.
The indoor humidity is best kept between 50-60%, that is good for health and your flooring.
3. Change indoor temperature by degrees
During the temperature rising, hardwood floor may cracking, cupping, warping or expanding in sharp heating. No matter in turning on or off the geothermal system, we recommend the environment temperature is about 22℃ while the surface temperature should be no more than 30℃, which is most suitable for people living.
